This will be a huge disappointment for many of us, and I think we need to discuss it factually.
XPENG aims to be seen as a technology leader - that’s exactly why we chose the brand.
My background: My P7 - First registration April 2025, purchased June 2025. So only 16 months old.
What happened today - Confirmed by Mobilsiden.dk (21.10.2026):
After a week of confusion and retracted statements in Norway, XPENG Denmark has now officially confirmed to Mobilsiden.dk that the new XOS 6 platform with Google Play Store and native Google Maps will NOT roll out to existing cars.
This affects all models launched before L03: G6, G9 and P7+ (and therefore also P7).
Official statement from PR Manager Mathias Brandt:
“The new XOS 6 platform with Google Maps and Google Play is built on a different software and hardware architecture than the one used in models launched before L03 (G6, G9 and P7+).”
“This means that the older models do not support the same integration of Google services, and that the features therefore cannot simply be added through a regular software update.”
He also added:
“At the moment, there are no plans to introduce XOS 6 with Google Maps and Google Play in models launched before L03. This of course does not mean that software development for our existing models stops. We will continue to work on improving and updating the respective platforms.”
My take:
I understand from the article that switching the entire OS from regular Android-based software to Android Automotive is technically very complex – it’s tightly connected to CAN-bus, climate and battery management and requires new type approval. VW does the same; cars born with Software 5 never get Software 6.
But it is still extremely bitter and disappointing. Buying a brand new car in June 2025, which was still in the showroom yesterday, and being excluded from the major update 2 years later – that is hard to accept for early supporters. Especially as the infotainment hardware should be able to run Android Automotive fine. I wrote up the specs here (in German).
Especially the brand new P7+ that has barely reached the first customers.
It would be great if XPENG could communicate more transparently:
What is the concrete roadmap for the XOS 5 platform for the next 12-24 months?
Is there any consideration for a paid hardware upgrade path, like Tesla offered in 2020 for Model S/X?
I still like to be an XPENG driver, but this topic is a major disappointment for many existing owners with MY 2024 / 2025.
How do you feel about this?
